Girl Sex 101
Jamie sits naked at her laptop, sweating into her sofa’s itchy upholstery. A little horny and a little bored, she types into the search bar: media jobs, Oakland. Nothing. She sighs and clicks over to her favorite porn site. No updates there either. She selects her camera, and her bluish face stares back at her, blinking just out of sync with her real eyes. She fills her cheeks with air, a chipmunk pufferfish kind of face. She hits ‘record’ and makes the face into the camera, watching the seconds tick by on the screen with increasing anxiety. Her cell phone rings. The screen glows with the name “Layla.” Jamie lifts her phone and hovers her thumb over the “Reject” button. She releases the air from her cheeks and answers. “What are you wearing?” Layla purrs from the receiver, not even waiting for Jamie to say hello. Jamie snickers. “Nothing but sweat and a smile.” “Sweat. I remember sweat.” “How’s Vancouver?” “Overcast. And expired. I’m going to San Diego.” “Why?” “I sold Olive to my brother.”
“You’re giving up the Ovlov of Love?” Layla makes a tiny sound of ambivalence. “She and I are merely going our separate ways. She’s a Swedish van. I’m a Korean girl. We come from separate worlds. It’s an amicable break up.” A flood of memories of Layla’s Volvo rush through Jamie’s brain. Mostly sex in the back, a few romantic camping trips, and, of course, the epic fight and ensuing breakup, all in that boxy behemoth. “Fancy a roadtrip?” Layla says, interrupting Jamie’s reverie. “Roadtrip?” “Vancouver to San Diego. Ten glorious days. I need some adventure. A change of scenery.” Jamie holds her breath and fidgets with the torn seam of her pillow. “C’mon! Olive’s getting old, and I’d rather not drive that distance alone. My playlists are only so long,” Layla says. “I mean it’s not like you have a job to leave.” “Hey,” Jamie says. “It’ll be like old times. You, me, and Olive. A bag of sex toys in the back and a bag of jerky in the front. Forget about your Cali troubles for a while.” Jamie chews on her lip.
